Queen City Yacht Club
Architect: Sortun-Vos Architects
The Queen City Yacht Club, a venerable Seattle landmark, had long been in need of a comprehensive remodelling inside and out. The design team of Sortun- Vos recommended Edifice Construction Company, Inc. and we began work with just 9 months to go before opening day of yachting season.

Working in an occupied structure is always a challenge, and Edifice crews had to exercise special care to keep noise and disruption to a minimum, particularly in the demolition phase of the project.

The essence of the original structure remains -- the distinctive rounded glass end of the building evoking images of classic yacht-lines. Inside, after crossing the lustrous marble floor emblazoned with the club logo and compass rosette, members and guests are greeted with a staircase sweeping up to the main clubhouse level, where they are surrounded with warm wood paneling, rich, nautical-hued carpeting and stunning views of Lake Washington's Portage Bay and the University of Washington.

As is so often the case on custom projects such as this, many features and design details of the club were decided upon as work progressed. Nevertheless, we completed the project on budget, and earned a glowing recommendation from the owners for our efforts. Now that's what we call a "Bristol" job!
